Dungeons & Dragons
What to Expect

A world that reflects our community

Fantasy offers a unique reflection of our everyday lives, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary. In our world, magic and adventure are everywhere—farmers grow crops, shopkeepers run their businesses, and people head to work each day. Through a fantasy setting, we can explore real-world issues and social dynamics in a safe, simulated environment that allows us to learn, experiment, and try again.

Make and maintain friendships

Through our small group-based activities and regular participants, we create a shared space where everyone is encouraged to express themselves and explore their interests. Building confidence and learning to speak up in a group can be intimidating, but by meeting regularly and ensuring that each person has a chance to contribute, we see confidence grow with every session.

Even during gameplay, we chat as our characters, fostering group engagement and making sure everyone's voice is heard. This not only strengthens communication but also helps build trust and a sense of belonging within the group.

Better understand ourselves and others

Sometimes it's hard to understand our emotions or recognize what we're feeling in the moment. Storytelling gives us the space to explore those emotions, allowing us to sit with them and gain deeper understanding. The pain of lost love, the sting of a stolen victory, or the shock of betrayal are powerful emotions we may not encounter often in daily life. Yet, around the table with friends, we can safely experience and practice navigating these feelings, all within the framework of a shared story.

Express and explore emotions

Through Dungeons & Dragons, we can “practice” difficult conversations or challenging situations by playing out different scenarios within the game. This allows us to gain confidence in handling similar situations in real life while also learning how others might react. When we roll a dice for an ability check, we use that moment to practice what our character would say, representing how they’d respond in that situation.

By combining dice rolls with role-playing, we not only sharpen our communication skills but also deepen our understanding of others’ perspectives, helping us express ourselves more clearly in the real world.

Develop decision making skills

Our players are amazing, bringing their characters to life through art! With custom “folder-style” character sheets designed by Dungeon Master Ishtar, they have plenty of space for detailed notes, abilities, and doodles. It’s the perfect mix of creativity and gameplay, and we love showcasing Ishtar’s work!

Increase literacy and numeracy skills

Our players are incredible, and we’re beyond proud of them for bringing their characters to life through art! They’ve been learning how to draw, and the results are simply amazing. To help with this creative journey, we use custom “folder-style” character sheets designed by our very own Dungeon Master Ishtar.

Unlike traditional two-page sheets, these folios spread character information across multiple pages, giving players space to take detailed notes, write out abilities, and even doodle. It’s a perfect blend of creativity and gameplay, and we love sharing Ishtar’s fantastic work with the group!
